‘Now is the time for you to come closer to understand us and to understand how we live and listen to what the needs are in our communities.’

Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann

What a privilege it was for me to go to Nauiyu Nambiyu (Daly River) in the Northern Territory to meet the Senior Australian of the Year, 2021, Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann. It was far more than a day of delightful company; it was also a day of deep learning, especially about Dadirri. This is not just a spiritual practice taught by the world’s oldest surviving culture. It’s a way of being that Australia and the world could greatly benefit from. Above all, it returns us to a sense of BELONGING: belonging to one another and to the earth on which we depend. A link follows to my interview, published in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age, which will give you a glimpse of this encounter, and to share what Dr Miriam-Rose so generously shared with me.
