Dr Stephanie Dowrick (Ph.D., D.Min) is Australia’s most original and successful writer in the fields of psychological and spiritual wellbeing. Formerly a publisher, and founding MD of the London-based publishing house, The Women’s Press, she is also a trained psychotherapist and an ordained Interfaith minister. Her many books aim to make complex, much-needed ideas and insights accessible and meaningful to a very wide range of readers.
Her international best sellers include the groundbreaking Intimacy & Solitude, Forgiveness & Other Acts of Love, The Universal Heart, Choosing Happiness: Life & Soul Essentials, and Seeking the Sacred: Transforming our view of ourselves and one another. Her key book on effective self-therapy to manage anxiety, stress and depression is Your Name is Not Anxious: A very personal guide to putting anxiety in its place. Its title directly expresses her decades-long interest in how we form our identity, what we identify with, and whether or how this supports us in our vital connections with others and in gaining a steady sense of self.
She is a two-time Nautilus Award winner (USA), and also a COVR Award winner (USA).
Stephanie Dowrick is widely known, too, as a psychological and spiritual retreat leader and speaker, and as a teacher of writing and a literary guide. She has written two highly praised novels for adults and two for children. In addition, she is the author of In the Company of Rilke, and co-writer with Mark S. Burrows of You Are the Future: Living the Questions With Rainer Maria Rilke. Her totally updated Creative Journal Writing: A guided journey of self-expression, personal growth, and supportive reflection is published in 2025, as is the American edition (St Martin’s Press) of Your name is not Anxious.
