MANY NOTES, ONE HEART Sunday 21 September: our monthly inclusive sacred service for September will be almost entirely devoted to music … and will be, in essence, the closing ceremony of the 2014 Sydney Sacred Music Festival. The service – led by Reverend Dr Stephanie Dowrick – will start promptly at 3pm with a slightly later end time of 4.30pm. Curated by sacred music and performance specialist Dr Kim Cunio, the service will include highlights from visionary soprano, Heather Lee, Kim Cunio, and Shakuhachi master, Bronwyn Kirkpatrick. They will sing separately and in ensemble. You will also hear chanters from the Sydney Zen Centre led by Roshi Subhana Barzaghi, Shohrat Tursun, originally from East Turkistan, a magnificent singer and traditional instrumentalist, plus Blue Mary, sacred music duo Richard Petkovic (Director of the Sydney Sacred Music Festival) and Maria Mitar, plus ancient Zen chants. This will be a rare chance to experience music transcending “performance” and uniting musicians and listeners in an authentic and uplifting experience of the sacred. Our address is Pitt Street (264) Uniting Church, Sydney. (Cross street is Park.) There will be no charge. Donations will be received with gratitude. Tea and coffee will be served.
